UNC Service

I have contributed to the research and teaching mission of UNC. I am involved in graduate training and participate in the Microbiology & Immunology and the Genetics & Molecular Biology curricula, contributing to lectures, course direction, BBSP admissions, and engaging new students through First Year Groups. I serve on numerous graduate student thesis committees. I also run a research lab and have had the great fortune to directly train future scientists, including undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and an assistant professor. Departmental service includes the Genetics Advisory Committee, and M&I Education and Training Committee.

Candidate Statement

I would enjoy participating in Faculty Council, representing tenured faculty from the School of Medicine. I have been a faculty member at UNC since 2010 and with tenure since 2016. I have a primary appointment in the Department of Genetics with a joint appointment in Microbiology & Immunology. As a faculty representative, I will advocate for continued institutional support for collaborative, multidisciplinary research and for our state-of-the-art core facilities, which all contribute to the research and teaching mission of the university. I will encourage policies that enable faculty to work together as teams. I will advocate for continuous training of faculty in areas of research, technology, and information that quickly change. I will relay perspectives concerning academics and other policies that affect tenured faculty.
