UNC Service

I have contributed to the research and teaching mission of UNC in several ways. I have led a research lab at UNC since 2010 and have directly trained future scientists, including undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs. As a member of two graduate curricula, M&I and GMB, I have contributed to course direction and instruction, BBSP admissions, BBSP-First Year Groups, and have served in numerous PhD thesis committees. I served 3 years on the SOM Committee to Review Appointments & Promotions to Associate Professor. I am currently an interim member of the Faculty Council, representing tenured faculty from the School of Medicine.

Candidate Statement

I am familiar with the challenges of sustaining research productivity and staffing, mentoring, and competing for extramural funding. I have benefited tremendously through collaborations at UNC, some of which have been fostered through institutional initiatives to bring groups together. I will advocate for continued institutional support for collaborative, multidisciplinary research, as well as support our state-of-the-art core facilities, which contribute to the research and teaching mission of the university. I will recommend initiatives to foster ongoing training of faculty and research staff in new technology. I am particularly interested to see gAI technology responsibly incorporated into our research and teaching efforts. I will encourage policies that unite clinical and basic scientists to facilitate translational research.
