I have contributed to the research and teaching mission of UNC in several ways. I have led a research lab at UNC since 2010 and have had the great fortune of directly training future scientists, including undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs. As a member of two graduate curricula, Microbiology & Immunology and Genetics & Molecular Biology, I have contributed to course direction and lectures, BBSP admissions, and student engagement through First Year Groups. I have served on an Education and Training Committee and on numerous thesis committees. I have served on the SOM Committee to Review Appointments & Promotions to Associate Professor

Candidate Statement

I am familiar with the challenges of sustaining research productivity and staffing, mentoring, and competing for extramural funding. I have benefited tremendously through collaborations at UNC, some of which have been fostered through institutional initiatives to bring groups together. I will advocate for continued institutional support for collaborative, multidisciplinary research and for our state-of-the-art core facilities, which contribute to the research and teaching mission of the university. I will encourage policies that enable faculty to work together as teams. I will advocate for continuous training of faculty in areas of research and technology that quickly change.
