Candidate Statement

Lynne Vernon-Feagans is the William C. Friday professor emerita of the School of Education. In her research, she has focused on the lives of low wealth rural children and their families. She led a multidisciplinary longitudinal study at UNC that followed 1,300 diverse rural children from birth to young adulthood to examine how families and schools impacted children’s development, especially literacy. She has co-led the RFPA retirement seminar through the Institute for Arts and Humanities and has been involved with campus and community organizations, including the Communities in Schools in Chatham County and Meals on Wheels in Orange County.
