UNC Service

I am currently a member of UNC's Faculty Athletics Committee, working specifically on aspects of student-athlete mental health and well-being and on academic performance. I have also served the university as Director of the London Honors Program, as Chair of the Ackland Art Museum's Academic Advisory Committee, and as Director of the Medieval and Early Modern Studies program. I have served as Director of Graduate Studies for Art History and have chaired our department's lectures committee.

Candidate Statement

Having observed the particular challenges faced by student-athletes, in my classes and in my own experience of having a daughter who was a D-1 athlete, I joined the Faculty Athletics Committee to advocate for these students. In my first year on the committee I co-organized a conference on student-athlete mental health, in which the chief medical officer of the NCAA addressed problems of stress, performance anxiety, and depression. A panel of UNC student-athletes shared their experiences of mental health struggles, and UNC's sports psychologist provided insight into what the biggest points of concern are. As a result of our committee's work on this topic, UNC Athletics was able to expand the sports psychology provision at UNC. I am running for re-election to the Faculty Athletics Committee to continue this important work.
