UNC Service

Hi! I served for 14 years as UNC’s Executive Vice Provost (2008-2022) and also was UNC’s Chief International Officer for a decade (2009-2018). Now, I hold joint appointments in three schools and am a clinical member of the UNC Craniofacial Center Team. For twelve years, I was Chair of the Department of Dental Ecology in the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. I am now teaching PUBH 420/720 - The Campus HIV/AIDS Course, and Social and Health Systems to First Year Medical Students.

I have served on the Faculty Executive Committee and currently Chair the Adams School of Dentistry's Promotion and Tenure Advisory Committee.

Candidate Statement

Given rising fiscal, political and social pressures on public higher education, issues around financial exigency and program change may arise in the next few years. This committee serves to examine financial stress at UNC and to evaluate possible changes to academic programs. Other universities in the UNC-System are currently facing program phase-outs and I believe that an active faculty voice is needed to advocate for the educational offerings of the University. UNC-Chapel Hill's commitment to the Humanities, Arts and Sciences, and Professional/Graduate schools are foundational to its reputation and stature. Having worked for years in the Office of the Provost and on the Faculty, I seek to enhance and protect academic quality and Faculty stature at UNC-Chapel Hill.
