UNC Service

I joined UNC Chapel Hill in 2001. I currently serve as Chair of the Department of Geography and Environment in the College of Arts and Sciences. Previously, I served as the Associate Chair and Director of the Graduate Certificate Program in Geography Information Science in the Department of Geography from 2013 to 2019. I also served on the Dean's Search Committee, the Executive Committee of E3P, and the Faculty Advisory Committee of the Institute for the Environment.

Candidate Statement

I run for this position because I wish to make UNC a better place for students and faculty. I have a long service record at UNC. I moved through the ranks from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and Full Professor. I was nominated for a Distinguished Professorship by my department multiple times, although not successful. I currently serve as the Department Chair. Previously, I served as the Associate Chair, a member of the Dean's Search Committee, a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee of the Institute for the Environment, and a member of the Executive Committee of E3P. The issues I care about most include (1) faculty pay and retention, (2) DEI in faculty recruitment and promotion, (3) equity in faculty teaching across the college, and (4) the new curriculum.
