In the Department of Linguistics, I have served as Director of Undergraduate Studies, Associate Chair (my current position), and Interim Chair. I also served a three-year term on the Undergraduate Admissions Advisory Committee.

Candidate Statement

As a faculty member in Linguistics, I am a scholar of the humanities with connections to the social sciences and to data science more broadly. Thus, in these times of significant change for the university and for the College, I will work to provide a mediating perspective between Humanities and other divisions, while advocating for the full inclusion of the humanistic disciplines in the university's new initiatives and opportunities for growth. I will also be a voice for smaller departments, which can be disproportionately impacted when new metrics and policies are established. Finally, as a former Director of Undergraduate Studies (for eight years) and a teaching-award recipient, I consider excellence in education a priority, and believe that faculty oversight is essential as the IDEAs in Action curriculum is implemented.
