UNC Service

As a scholar of African music and culture, I have put on public outreach events with the African Studies Center, Carolina Public Humanities, and Carolina Performing Arts. I was one of the first organizers of an interdisciplinary, team taught, Ideas, Information, and Inquiry (I.I.I.) course, on the topic "The Idea of Race."

Candidate Statement

I have been inspired by the Faculty Council's readiness to speak up regarding, first, the University's handling of Silent Sam, then its handling of COVID_19. I believe UNC needs a strong, democratic, faculty voice on both controversial matters such as these, and the everyday workings of the university. My strongest qualification is my ten years as a faculty member in the AAAD department, where I have been made aware of some of the most pressing ongoing issues for students and faculty on this campus.
