I am a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Diabetes Core Director at the Center for Women's Health Research. As President of the UNC Association of Professional Women in the Medical Sciences (APWIMS), I work with leadership to sponsor professional development programs for women faculty. As a member of the Simmons Scholars Advisory Committee, I work with the Office of Faculty Affairs to support minority junior faculty pursuing research careers. I serve as a Vice Chair of Institutional Review Committee. I am a prior member of both the Full Professor Appointments, Promotions and Tenure and Post-Tenure Review Committees.

Candidate Statement

As a triple alumnus (BA’86, MD ’90, Residency ’94), I am passionate about the ability of students and faculty to thrive both personally and academically. I am committed to a vision for scholarly productivity and a philosophy of student and faculty wellness and dedicated to fostering an institutional culture of inclusive excellence and innovation. As President of the Association of Professional Women in Medical Sciences, I understand the challenges that faculty face on a day-to-day basis. My added value would be to bring these insights forward, working to develop innovative strategies to enhance campus life, address social challenges and inform a strategic vision for faculty and student retention. I understand the value of transparent, equitable policies for academic promotion. I look forward to working to further the mission of UNC.
