Aliza Nedimyer

Running for: Educational Policy Committee
  • Teaching Assistant Professor
  • Exercise and Sport Science, College of Arts and Sciences
  • Appointed: 2022
  • Ph.D., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
UNC Service

I currently serve as the advisor for one student organization and will be the advisor for a second pending its approval. Within the Department of Exercise and Sport Science, I serve on the Undergraduate Research Committee as well as a subcommittee within the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee seeking to ensure there exists ways to receive, record, and offer solutions toward the resolution of concerns about the education and work environments within the department. I am excited about the opportunity to become more involved in and provide service to the broader College and University, and hope this position allows me to begin to do so.

Candidate Statement

After holding multiple student roles and now a teaching faculty role at UNC-CH, I am passionate about ensuring that all students feel supported and are able to be active, engaged participants in their education. Working with students who bring diverse experiences, backgrounds, opinions, and needs to a learning community has challenged me to further my understanding and take logical steps to adjust my own classrooms to reflect the types of spaces required to meet student needs. I have also sought out ways to help support similar initiatives at the departmental level. I am honored to have been nominated to run for the Educational Policy Committee, and serving on this committee would allow me the chance to continue to support creating an inclusive and productive student experience on a broader level using policy in addition to practice.
