UNC Service

I am currently the Chair of the Department of Mathematics, a member of the Faculty Council, and serving on the General Education Oversight Committee. Previously, I have been my Department’s Associate Chair and have twice been elected to the Chair’s Advisory Committee. Other past service includes membership on the graduate and undergraduate committees, reappointment and promotion committees, and numerous hiring committees within my department. Outside of the Department, I have additionally been on University Teaching Awards Committees and chaired the Bowman and Gordon Gray selection committee.

Candidate Statement

I have a passion for working with Carolina’s students. This is evidenced by the trainings that I have attended (Equity in Teaching Institute, Safe Zone Ally, Carolina Firsts Advocate, Mental Health First Aid, Team ADVANCE Faculty Mentoring Training) and past recognitions (2019 Faculty Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring, 2018 UNC-CH Board of Governors’ Award for Excellence in Teaching, the 2017 and 2022 Goodman Petersen Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Education, Bowman and Gordon Gray Distinguished Term Professorship). Our universities have the difficult task of excelling on multiple fronts: conducting pioneering research, representing educational excellence, and exemplifying cultural awareness and social leadership. I believe that each of the three missions warrant deep consideration within faculty governance.
