Candidate Statement

Twenty years ago I came to UNC as an associate professor. Since then, I’ve held several administrative positions, including Interim Chair and Director of Graduate Studies in my department; I've served on numerous committees in the College of Arts and Sciences and the University. I hold affiliate positions in two other departments. Outside the university, I’ve served on key committees for scholarly organizations. This experience has made me senstive to the challenges the university faces, especially political interference and undue donor influence. I’ve written articles on these subjects for widely read publications. If elected to the Faculty Executive Committee, I’ll bring my knowledge and experience to the task at a time when the voice of the faculty at UNC badly needs to be heard.
