Candidate Statement

I served as Mathematics Chair under 4 different senior associate deans, four deans of the college, three provosts, and three chancellors. I have a good understanding of what works and what doesn't work in higher education. I was honored to twice serve as the College Council of Chairs chair during difficult times involving HB2, the confederate memorial, and worked with other chairs to state our opposition to the bill and opposition to any discussion of ever returning the memorial to UNC. I worked on creation of the new gen ed and new data science curriculum, as well as new curric in mathematics. I worked each summer with the Chancellor's Science Scholars through the transition to research math class I designed. I served for one year on faculty council. I feel these experiences will be useful in Faculty Executive Committee work.
