I served as an elected member of Faculty Council from 2012-2015 and then 2016-2017 when I was elected to the Faculty Executive Committee (2017-present) and to the Faculty Hearings Committee (2017-present). From 2008-2014, I chaired the MPH-Nutrition committee, and in this role focused on improving admissions processes as well as leading numerous curricular enhancements. I became chair of the Department of Nutrition in 2014 and have served for several years as “chair of the chairs” in the Gillings School, in which I am the liaison to the Dean and the School leadership team. I also serve on the Gillings COVID-19 response team.

Candidate Statement

I am running for a 2nd term on FEC to provide continuity at this unique time of new university and system level leadership, university-wide budgetary constraints, and new challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These challenges must be met in a way that allows for realistic, forward progress toward achieving our mission, with a clear voice representing faculty insights and opinions. I am running for the Faculty Hearings Committee and will ensure attention to detail and fairness. My formal training incorporated liberal arts, public health and medicine. In addition to academic roles, from 2011-2017, I served as President Obama's appointee to the Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health. These roles have informed my capacity to draw input across a diverse set of stakeholders toward accomplishment of common goals.
