Candidate Statement

The life of the mind is a commitment to exploration, rigor, and a perpetual desire to learn anew. Though I am new(ish!) to Carolina, my career has embraced the spirit of discovery tenure affords. Alongside my record of excellence in research, teaching, and service, I bring unique experience and a deep understanding of academic standards to bear, including my previous roles as Department Chair and Associate Dean of the Faculty. I enthusiastically support scholarship that helps us better understand our past, that situates our present, and that will inform our future. To serve on APT feels especially important now in a landscape where the merits of tenure and promotion are being questioned by some. If elected, I will serve with honesty, integrity, a spirit of collaboration, and a desire to ensure the highest scholarly standards are upheld.
