UNC Service

Since I joined the faculty in Health Behavior in 2005, I have held many service roles. In the department I served as the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs for two years, a member of our MPH admissions committee for four years, and a member of our APT. In 2020 I was appointed as the Gillings Associate Dean for Global Health. At Gillings I served on the Academic Program Committee, and ad-hoc committees related to DEI and research. Across campus, I am a board member for the Center for AIDS Research and the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases. I am also the UNC Faculty Director for the Rotary Peace Fellowship.

Candidate Statement

Having served on the UNC faculty for 17 years, I have experienced the ebbs and flows of university administration without fully appreciating how policies, initiatives, and administrative decisions at the university-level could affect me as a public health faculty member. In my role as Associate Dean for Global Health I have had the opportunity to engage with faculty and administrators across campus, and this perspective has helped me understand the larger university system. With a deeper understanding of this system, I am now in a position to be able to help our public health faculty understand how university policies and actions may affect them and their work. I would be honored to serve on this council representing the interests of Gillings faculty and relaying relevant information from the council to Gillings faculty as needed.
