I have served on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science as a member since 2017 and as the Committee Chair since 2021. As part of my role on the DEI committee, I’ve mentored undergraduate DEI Fellows from the UNC Office of Diversity and Inclusion for the past 2 years. I currently serve on the EXSS Department Blyth committee and have served on as chair of faculty search committees, and as member of three department undergraduate awards committees. I’m also the Director of the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research at UNC.

Candidate Statement

Since coming to UNC in 2013, my service has been at the department level (EXSS). I look forward to broadening the scope of my service to the university level to be a member of Faculty Counsel representing tenured faculty in the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences. My experiences on the EXSS department’s DEI committee, I have worked to understand perspectives and needs of faculty, staff and students for DEI programming to foster a sense of inclusion for all. I teach Research Methods and have incorporated an original research experience into the course to meet the new Research and Discovery Requirement.
