I am a Professor in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research. My current research interests are foundations of data science and statistics, and their applications to biology and forensic science. I currently serve as a chair of the UNC CH’s delegation to the Faculty Assembly. As a chair I started regular delegation meetings prior to each Assembly discussing how we can best represent UNC CH. I also served two terms on the Faculty Council, where I developed a reputation for asking probing questions. Finally, I was on the Grievance Committee and Student Stores Advisory Committee for one term.

Candidate Statement

I am running for the Faculty Assembly Delegation, a body representing all 17 schools in the UNC system. In my opinion, our delegation’s role is twofold: we can advocate for research and graduate education, and provide a conduit to the expertise that uniquely resides on our campus. Unfortunately, our impact is limited due to underrepresentation (UNC CH has only 1 delegate for every 820 faculty members compared to the system average of 1 per 242). If elected, I plan to advocate for increased representation, ensuring our university’s achievements and challenges are adequately presented at the system level. I will also champion for improved faculty salaries and support for a better work-life balance. I would be very thankful for your vote.
