For the past two years, I’ve served as a history commentator for the Tar Heel Bus Tour, drawing from my training and research in North Carolina’s political, economic, and educational history. I also serve with the Classrooms Modernization Advisory Group and the advisory committee for Interdisciplinary Studies. I volunteer as a Carolina Covenant mentor, and I’m currently Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Public Policy department.

Candidate Statement

With humility and care, I hope to represent your priorities and concerns as a member of the Faculty Executive Committee. Trained as a historian and working in an interdisciplinary department, I value and respect the many methodological perspectives generated by faculty across campus. I am relatively new to Carolina, but I have always cared deeply about this university (despite my Duke degree!) and its mission to serve the public. Tar Heel born—in the western foothills—and a former public high school teacher in northeastern North Carolina, I’m familiar with the assets and disparities across the state, and I cherish the work this institution has done to improve life for North Carolinians. I recognize the political headwinds we face, and I would listen well and seek to repair and bolster UNC for current and future generations of Tar Heels.
