2024 Faculty Election

Kim Faurot

Running for: Division 13. School of Medicine: Faculty Council, Nontenured
  • Research Associate Professor
  • School of Medicine
  • Appointed: 2015
  • PhD, University of North Carolina, 2014
UNC Service

I have not served on a University-wide committee in the past. I am a member of my department's Well-being Committee and DEI committee and I lead our Research Committee.

Candidate Statement

I am running for the Faculty Council to represent non-tenure track faculty in the School of Medicine. As part of the position, I hope to learn from other faculty in the school to understand their needs and priorities so that I can represent them faithfully on the Council. The School of Medicine is currently facing changes to the research administration structure and other challenges that require skillful navigation. For example, the UNC One initiative has added personnel to improve our school-wide infrastructure, but their efforts have not translated into adequate levels of support for our smaller departments. A second concern is the new mandates requiring faculty not to use sex, gender, or minority status as a consideration in hiring or filling internship positions--again requiring skillful navigation.
