Candidate Statement

I am a proud UNC graduate (B.S. Biology 1990). Since returning as faculty, I have led a productive basic research team, taught in medical and graduate courses, and supervised many undergraduates’ independent study. Most recently, I served as Associate Dean for Graduate Education in the School of Medicine. In that role I worked closely with faculty, students, and leaders in the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Public Health, and the College of Arts and Sciences. Through these relationships I learned about the varied perspectives and priorities in different parts of campus. I also became familiar with approaches at several peer institutions. I feel called to continue contributing to UNC’s success, and I will bring my experience and knowledge, my analytical approach, and my optimism to the committee in support of faculty governance.
