UNC Service

Service to the University and its people is necessary for the progress of the institution. Early in the pandemic, I worked to bring together stakeholders from all over campus to help mitigate concerns around caregiving, which resulted in the Chancellor’s Workgroup on Caregiving, which I co-chair. I practice at the Hillsborough campus of UNC Hospitals, & with hospital leadership, I created & co-chair a Physician Leadership Committee for the campus. I also serve on the School of Medicine’s Admissions Committee, which allows me to help select the future leaders & innovators of medicine. I also serve on other university and hospital committees.

Candidate Statement

UNC’s greatest asset is its people; therefore, I want to elevate what matters most to our faculty. I want to speak out for the wellbeing & interests of all faculty, especially to amplify voices that aren’t usually heard. I want to give space for faculty concerns & help find equitable, sustainable, & practical solutions for these concerns (ie pay equity, faculty retention & support). While serving in numerous leadership roles during my career (including as president of the county medical society & service on executive committees and boards), I have learned how to listen well to all parties & to analyze all facets of an issue. As the flagship University of NC, UNC is well equipped to take on challenges of regional, national, & international importance, & I want to help keep our faculty well & well positioned at the forefront of this work.
