Candidate Statement

English and Comparative Literature is the only department that teaches every UNC student. That includes our scholar-athletes. Since most of our classes are small, we get to know our students well, understand their needs as people. A representative from our department will provide this committee with important insights to help our scholar-athletes succeed outside their respective arenas. I believe my experience working with young athletes, both in the classroom and in my professional life, will aid the committee’s mission. Before coming to UNC, I worked as a basketball scout in Chicago. My creative work often deals with athletics. My wife and I are also members of the Rams Club, season ticket holders to baseball, both women’s and men’s soccer, and basketball. I believe high achieving athletics is a vital part of life at Carolina.
