UNC Service

In service to UNC, I was elected to the Faculty Council for two terms (2007-2009 and 2009-2011). I currently serve on the Faculty Hearings Committee (2019-2022) and am seeking re-election to this committee. Within the School of Medicine, I was a member of the Admission Committee for fifteen years and the Tenured Professor Promotion and Tenure Committee for a year. I currently am a member of the Dean's Advisory Council.

Candidate Statement

The Faculty Hearings Committee is tasked with objectivity and open-mindedness regarding faculty requests to be heard in disputes with their department or the University. This is a solemn charge. Serving on this committee for the past two years has been tremendously rewarding and meaningful. My past service on Promotions and Tenure Committees as well as the Faculty Council provided me with insight into the rules of tenure/promotion and University governance. As Department of Emergency Medicine Chair, I have dealt with thorny issues of human resources, promotions, and other personnel issues. Keeping an open mind, seeking to understand the full range of issues playing into a dispute, and working toward a fair and equitable solution is paramount for members of this committee. I would be honored to continue to serve in this manner.
