UNC Service

I am the founding and current director of the UNC Microbiome Core. The University-approved recharge facility has contributed to over 600 research projects at UNC and elsewhere, strengthened grant proposals, and acknowledged in over 100 publications. Core facilities allow for a highly collaborative environment and support faculty engaged in research activities, contributing overall to the University scientific and medical discoveries that help advance our community health and society.

Candidate Statement

I am honored by the nomination to serve in the Faculty Executive Committee. As faculty in the Department of Medicine and director of the Microbiome Core, I had the opportunity to contribute and collaborate with faculty across departments at UNC. As such I offer my expertise to work with the various groups within the University in order to help realize the goals set by the Faculty Council. Our campus is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, which had enormous effects on our whole community. Hence, my philosophy draws from the sense of community and centers in decisions made based on data, diversity, access, inclusion and commitment to a continuous improvement. I look forward to serving in the Faculty Executive committee, recognizing that hard times are ahead in the pathway to recovery.
