Jay Aikat, Senior Associate Dean of UNC’s School of Data Science and Society (SDSS), has been a Computer Science faculty member since 2011.

* Faculty Appointee to UNC Committee on Community and Diversity, 2018-2021
* Led and participated in key data science initiatives at UNC-Chapel Hill since 2013

Aikat joined Carolina in 1996, serving as IT Director in two schools. She earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2010 from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Candidate Statement

I feel honored and humbled to be nominated to serve a second term on the Chancellor's Advisory Committee. If elected, I will strive to advance Carolina’s culture of respect, compassion, care, and trust.

I bring to the Advisory Committee the knowledge, expertise, and energy to serve, learn, lead, and collaborate with faculty colleagues across Carolina. As Senior Associate Dean of the new School of Data Science and Society, I cherish the privilege of working with faculty across various academic units at UNC to collaboratively advance the data science ecosystem at Carolina.

If re-elected, I will represent our concerns and aspirations to the university leadership, and continue to contribute to our shared faculty governance. Thank you for this opportunity to serve Carolina.
