Please note that the Joint Meeting of the General Faculty and Faculty Council scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1 has been canceled. For more information, please see the following message from the chair and secretary of the faculty.

Dear colleagues,

We regret to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to cancel tomorrow’s Faculty Council meeting.

Yesterday, we were saddened to learn the about the death of a beloved staff member in the Chancellor’s Office. Elizabeth Williams, the chancellor’s assistant, passed away suddenly on Tuesday. Any of you who ever met Elizabeth were charmed by her positivity and impressed by her abilities and dedication to her job. Everyone in the Chancellor’s and Provost’s Offices is shocked and in mourning; we send them all our best wishes during this difficult time. The family scheduled the funeral for Friday afternoon, which means that Chancellor Guskiewicz, Provost Clemens, most of the South Building staff, and some of our scheduled presenters are unavailable to attend Faculty Council. Since most of the people on the agenda can’t join us and out of respect for their loss, we have decided to cancel this meeting and take up the planned agenda items in the spring. In the meantime, we will keep you updated as we have information to share that affects faculty and faculty governance.

Chancellor Guskiewicz has asked that you join him in keeping Elizabeth’s husband and family in your thoughts during this difficult time. Services have been set for Friday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Warm regards,
Beth and Jill
