Yesterday, Chair of the Faculty Leslie Parise released the following statement in reaction to the the violence that occurred at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on April 30, 2019.

Dear Faculty Colleagues, A terrible tragedy took place at UNC Charlotte yesterday evening when a gunman opened fire and shot several people. From what has been reported, two people were killed and four sustained injuries, with three in critical condition. I am shocked and saddened by any act of violence like this, but it is especially compounded when it takes place so close to home. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the victims, and to our UNC-Charlotte colleagues. I am concerned about the impact of these types of events on the well-being, health and safety of our own campus community.
