UNC Service

I have been serving as the Associate Chair and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in my department since Fall 2016. I chaired several promotion and reappointment committees as well as post-tenure review committees. I have been a member of several faculty hiring committees over the years, and I served as a mentor to junior faculty. Outside my department, I served as a member of the Dean’s Task Force on Transforming Instruction in Large Lecture Courses. In addition, I have been serving on the editorial boards of some of the top journals and have been a member of various prestigious prize committees in my field.

Candidate Statement

My own experiences with tenure and promotion as well as those of others that are shared with me, either here at UNC or at other universities, have taught me the importance of and the challenges associated with ensuring a fair process that is attuned to the characteristics and intricacies of different fields while keeping the high standards we must maintain as one of the world’s leading universities. I believe that members of the Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure Committee assume a great responsibility by committing themselves to take the time and effort to not shy away from this challenge and uphold our faculty’s trust in the process. If elected, I will be honored to take my share of this responsibility.
