Candidate Statement

I have served on many University committees and been involved in numerous University initiatives over the course of my career and through that work have developed a deep respect for the importance of Faculty governance. As a long-time member of the Natural Sciences faculty I have witnessed a gradual diminution in the influence of faculty input in the development of important University policies. As a flagship public university, UNC-CH is subject to an unusual amount of external oversight, which is at once inefficient and unnecessarily politically charged. I will work to strengthen the role of Faculty governance and to elevate the role of faculty in defining and implementing the research and teaching mission of the University.
