UNC Service

I have served on several advisory boards and committees at UNC-CH. My service activities have included, but are not limited to, serving on the Dean’s Advisory Committee, Institute of African American Research’s Advisory Board, Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Naming University Facilities and Units, African Studies Center’s Advisory Board, Arts@Core’s Advisory Board, and Institute for the Arts and Humanities’ Advisory Board. I am currently serving a second term as department chair.

Candidate Statement

For many years, I have worked collaboratively with colleagues in my department and across our campus on various initiatives that have contributed to the university’s mission. Working with several partners at UNC-CH and internationally, I have also been involved in programs that have promoted the university’s global mission by developing and leading study abroad programs, such our campus’ Study Abroad Program in Malawi in 2018 and by organizing forums that have facilitated global intellectual dialogue. I have accepted the nomination to run for the Advisory Committee because I believe my diverse experiences of service on our campus and beyond will enable me to work productively with other colleagues on the committee to advocate for faculty, students, and staff, and to advance the university’s mission.
