UNC Service
I was invited to teach a playwriting class in Spring 2005 and gradually added classes in play analysis, dramaturgy and collaboration. I have served as dramaturg on 15 PlayMakers productions. I have directed 3 student productions with Kenan Theatre Company, and 2 of my plays have been performed by the Dept. of Dramatic Art. I have served on faculty search committees and co-chaired a departmental curriculum review. I have served as a faculty advisor and a departmental liaison for the Office of Undergraduate Research. Like many of you, I mainly serve by getting to know students and, by means formal and informal, helping them on their way.
Candidate Statement
I'm running for faculty council because I was asked to do so. What I would hope to bring to the position is what I value most: community and harmony. I spend my time, in life and work, striving to build community and foster hope. Our campus is beautiful, idyllic. So many of the ambitions of our people are concentrated on bettering the world and in a myriad ways. This is marvelous. There is a shared vision many people have of a campus where people of all backgrounds--students, staff and faculty--feel embraced, valued, and part of one Carolina home. This is what I'd like to see. All I have for qualification and experience is three decades of trying, as an individual and as part of groups of varying sizes, to help the human garden grow.
