UNC Service

During my time at UNC, I have served as director of the Center for the Study of the American South, and on several committees within the College of Arts and Sciences, including Dean’s committees to review dance across our curriculum and several CAS committees to address the adoption of new technologies within the classroom. Within my department, I have served two terms as associate chair, in numerous other committee-chair roles, and started and currently direct a new program in bluegrass that has included hiring several part-time faculty and hosting major events.

Candidate Statement

I am running for Faculty Council because I believe that the heart and mind of this university is its faculty, and our collective voice should guide and direct our future to serve our students and our communities—local, national, and global—as well as possible. I believe the faculty council is a vitally important body that weaves together our different disciplinary perspectives and working on shared concerns across our faculty. My research is intrinsically interdisciplinary, and I would like the opportunity to represent the arts in these broader conversations. As an officer in my national professional organization and with my departmental and college-level service thus far at UNC, I have experience with the administrative actions that the faculty council employs on behalf of our faculty and university every day.
