I served as chair of mathematics for just over 9 years. I served as interim chair of the council of chairs in 2016, and then chair of the CoC in 2018. I served on the Provost subcommittee for the Data Science undergrad degree committee (2019), the Deans advisory committee (2016-2018), the global guarantee task force (2017-2018), the evidence and analysis task force for the UNC General Education and Curriculum revision (2017), an advisor for the UNC College of Arts and Sciences Strategic Planning Committee (2016), on the Administrative Board for the College (2005-2008,2008-2011), and Chair of the Foundation Subcom curric rev (2010).
I served as Chair of Mathematics under 4 different senior associate deans, three deans of the college, three provosts, and three chancellors. This has given me a good understanding of what works and what does not work in higher education. I had the honor of serving twice as the Chair of the College of Arts and Sciences during difficult times involving HB2, the confederate memorial, and worked with other chairs in helping to state our opposition to the bill and opposition to any discussion of ever returning the memorial to UNC. I have worked on creation of the new gen ed and new data science curriculum, as well as new curriculum in mathematics. I have worked each summer with the Chancellor's Science Scholars through the transition to research math class I designed. I feel these experiences will be useful in Faculty council work.
