UNC Service
I've been a part of the Carolina community since starting graduate school in 1994. Since then, I have served the university in various ways, including serving on the A&S Dean’s Advisory Committee (appointed), department Chair’s Advisory Committee (peer-elected) and UNC’s Educational Policy Committee (elected). I also have experience as a Director of Undergraduate Studies and Summer School Administrator; as a mentor for Carolina Covenant Scholars, Carolina Scholars and C-STEP; and as a member or chair of various search and promotion committees for my department as well as outside of my department.
Candidate Statement
My qualifications also include having served as my department's Director of Undergraduate Research; participating in countless admissions events, including events for prospective first-generation and transfer students; and mentoring ~190 graduate students in their teaching. I have consistently taught between 500-800 students per semester for the past 15 years and prepped ~18 new courses, including co-prepping a Triple I course called Death & Dying. Thus, if elected, I would have a wide variety of experiences and perspectives to draw from. As Carolina moves forward, I am particularly and deeply interested in efforts to facilitate a welcoming and inclusive environment as well as considering the budgetary and feasibility challenges in light of ambitious educational goals.
