Candidate Statement

The University's public mission rightly includes the recognition of people who exemplify our commitment to creative work and service for the public good. The Faculty must play a central role in choosing the people whom our University honors with special awards for their exceptional achievements. Honorary degrees and other awards for distinguished public actions enable the faculty to affirm our enduring academic values by honoring diverse contributions to knowledge, social justice, and the vitality of a democratic society. I would like to serve on this Committee because it offers an important opportunity to honor individuals whose activities and accomplishments represent the purpose of our University far beyond the academic community in which we teach and pursue our research.
