  • Asian Studies, Arts and Sciences

UNC Service

To date, I have greatly appreciated the opportunities before me to serve students, largely through panels and presentations relating to my experience as a Marine, a student studying abroad in Syria, and as an instructor of Arabic at UNC. I have worked extensively with the Area Studies Centers and the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies to support student engagement and to advance their studies of Arabic and the Middle East. I look forward to diversifying the nature of my service to UNC through extra-departmental opportunities such as this.

Candidate Statement

I am running for this position to make a tangible contribution to the aspect of Carolina life that sits at the intersection of athletics and academics, and is highly impactful to the greater Carolina community. I hope to continue the work that the Committee has previously done in monitoring the relationship between athletics and academics, curating a better experience for student-athletes, and creating an attainable path toward success both inside the classroom and outside it.

In my previous interactions with vulnerable student populations, be it student-athletes, veterans, refugees, or first-generation students, I have served as a willing advocate as they struggled to balance the rigors of class and their personal challenges. I look forward to continuing this work in an official capacity through the Faculty Athletics Committee.
