Candidate Statement
I have been teaching in the English and Comparative Literature Department in various capacities (graduate student, post-doc, online instructor, self-paced and part-time studies instructor, assistant teaching professor) since 1993. As a member of this Committee, I can extend my vision of high-level student-centered learning founded in an empathy for students and a desire to maintain and promote the high standards of scholarship at UNC. My classroom structure—organized and thoughtful to accommodate unexpected and often delightful tangents—models the policies shaped by this Committee. Working on complex requests for transfer of credit as Director of the WID Program and my work placing teaching fellows in courses complement my experience in the classroom and provide me a comprehensive perspective on curriculum that make me a strong candidate.
