UNC Service
I have served on the Chancellor's Advisory Committee for the past 3 years. In addition to several departmental committees, I have been active across the School of Medicine (SOM) and UNC Healthcare system, including the SOM admissions committee, the Student Progress Committee, the UNC Covid Task Force, several search committees for SOM leadership roles and most recently at-large board member for the UNC SOM faculty practice to name a few. I have been proud to support programs across our undergraduate and graduate campus that foster the excitement of and access to higher education and science for our current and aspiring students.
Candidate Statement
UNC has been my professional home since 2008 but as a NC native, it has been my educational home since far before then. As a product of UNC sponsored pipeline programs supporting women and underrepresented minorities in science beginning as early as middle school, I consider myself a living example of UNC’s stated mission. This mission to “…teach a diverse community of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students to become the next generation of leaders” is what brought me back to UNC to complete my medical degree, training in nephrology and an MPH. As the inaugural Vice Chair of DEI for the Dept. of Medicine, I feel a great commitment and responsibility to support this mission through service and would value the opportunity to continue to represent our students, staff, and faculty in the work of this committee.
