UNC Service

I am the George F. Sheldon Distinguished Professor and Chief of the Division of Transplantation. In 2016 I was appointed Executive Medical Director of the UNC Healthcare Center for Transplant Care and Jason Ray Transplant Clinics. I served on Faculty Council (2002-2008) and the Faculty Executive Committee (2006- 2011). In 2007 I was selected to the SoM's Academy of Educators and developed an intro course on “Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences.” I am also a founding member of the UNC Healthcare Innovation Council. In 2011 I was appointed to UNC's Institutional Conflict of Interest Committee and have served as Committee Chair since 2012.

Candidate Statement

For 20+ years I have been actively involved across UNC's academic community collaborating with colleagues and campus members in domains like KFBS, Dept of Chemistry and the School of Pharmacy. Those experiences along with opportunities where I have served the School of Medicine or the University are critical to my professional growth. In recent years I have taken on new roles within the medical school and healthcare system and I just retired from a 30-year career as a reservist in the US Air Force. I believe that these diverse experiences and opportunities within and outside the university have helped me develop my collaborative and innovative skillset. I am running for a position on the Advisory Committee so that I can actively engage and be a voice for campus leadership as we continue to teach, research and lead at UNC.
