UNC Service

I am the George F. Sheldon Distinguished Professor, Chief of the Division of Transplantation and the Executive Medical Director of the UNC Healthcare Center for Transplant Care and Jason Ray Transplant Clinics. I served on Faculty Council (2002-2008), the Faculty Executive Committee (2006- 2011) and the Advisory Committee (2020-21). In 2007 I was selected to the Academy of Educators and developed a course on “Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences” and I am a founding member of the UNC Healthcare Innovation Council. From 2011-present I have been a member of UNC's Institutional Conflict of Interest Committee and have served as Chair since 2012.

Candidate Statement

For two decades I have been active across UNC's campus, collaborating with colleagues in other areas including KFBS, Dept of Chemistry and the School of Pharmacy. My professional and academic development are a product of these experiences and other opportunities where I served the medical school or the University. I have helped lead diversity efforts in faculty and staff recruitment for our department which has made our unit a leader amongst our peers. Outside the university I recently retired as a Colonel in the US Air Force after 30 years of service. My breadth of experiences within and outside the university have shaped my collaborative and innovative skillset and I am running for a position on the Advisory Committee so that I can actively engage and be a voice across campus as we continue to teach, research and lead at UNC.
