As a member of the Faculty Council, I have represented the interests of nontenured faculty over the last 3 years. I have been research-track faculty at UNC for 15 years and I am aware of the challenges. I am a member of the UNC School of Medicine Wellness Committee, where I represent the interests of basic research faculty. A major goal of the studies in my laboratory at UNC is to uncover potential targets for pharmacological therapy of respiratory diseases. I have experience working with diverse interdisciplinary teams. Furthermore, I have chaired international conferences and seminar series, and I have been teaching for many years.

Candidate Statement

I endorse diversity and it is my strong belief that everyone at UNC should have access to high-quality mentorship, training, and education regardless of race, gender, religion, social status, and position/appointment. Interdisciplinary teams at Institutes and Centers at UNC have a high proportion of nontenured investigators who have key, indispensable roles in research and education. I support a structured mentorship plan and career-promoting resources to strengthen the positions of nontenured faculty at our university. Thus, I endorse full integration of nontenured faculty investigators in the research mission of UNC. Overall, I promote a healthy culture of integrity, wellness, and academic freedom, with representation of women and under-represented diverse minorities as members of faculty and in positions of leadership.
