UNC Service

I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Physical Sciences. My research brings together various disciplines including chemistry, material science, biology and medicine to create tissue engineering solutions. I lead a research group with a diverse mix of scholars. I teach and create new courses as well as act as mentor for both students and faculty. I lead a departmental forum to advance women in science and served on search committee for faculty, staff, and administrative positions. I also continuously serve as a faculty mentor and judge for Undergraduate Research Symposium and competitions.

Candidate Statement

Service is essential to the proper functioning and future well-being of any university. Without the active participation of faculty in governance and other activities, the institution cannot adapt to the ever-changing needs of students, the community, and society as a whole. I hope to provide a voice in decisions that have a long-standing impact. This service is not simply an individual goal, but an opportunity to shape and advance the mission and goals of UNC. I hope to Contributing to the University’s programs to enhance equal opportunity and cultural diversity. I am also constantly thinking about ways for the sciences and arts and humanities to come together around research and teaching ventures and hope to be able to facilitate that.
