UNC Service

Within the Department of Chemistry, I have been serving as the Director of Undergraduate Labs since 2012. I began serving as co-chair of our department’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in 2021, and I currently serve on our Undergraduate Studies Committee. Outside of the Chemistry Department, my service includes membership in the Quality Enhancement Plan Leadership team to work on the Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) Program. In 2020, I served on the IDEAS in Action Course Review Team to evaluate courses from multiple departments. I have volunteered as a Carolina Covenant mentor for five years.

Candidate Statement

Working with students is the best part of my position. As a Carolina graduate and parent of two Carolina alums, I understand how UNC is a transformative experience for our students. With over 20 years of teaching and academic experience, I will bring a variety of educational experiences to the General Education Oversight Committee. While at UNC, I have taught primarily large enrollment lecture and lab courses, including implementation of the first large enrollment (approx. 700 students/year) CURE and an APPLES service-learning course. I’m committed to ensuring that our curriculum provides the foundational skills and experiences that our students need for an enriched life and successful future.
