Candidate Statement

I am seeking to continue my contributions to making UNC a supportive, inclusive, and inspiring environment for students, staff, and faculty to not just work, but to thrive. I believe this environment begins with recognizing and valuing the variety of strengths, skills, and perspectives each person in our community brings and working to ensure the structures and policies that surround these individuals are equitable and effective in helping these individuals thrive. I bring lessons learned from my roles as academic dean, program director, tenure & promotion committee chair and my experience as an advisor and mentor, as a collaborator with interdisciplinary and grant-funded research, as a participant in mentorship and leadership training, and as a member of UNC's Task Force on Promotion and Tenure and other bodies at the university.
