Current service: Member, Chair - UNC Appointments, Promotions, & Tenure (APT) Committee; Member - Provost’s Taskforce on Promotion and Tenure Policies and Practices; Chancellor’s Advisory Committee; Medical Student Admissions Committee; NC TraCS translational research review panel; Undergraduate Neurobiology Major executive committee; Curriculum in Neurobiology student mentoring committee; Co-Director of instruction: UNC summer MED program that prepares minority students for medical and dental school; Most relevant previous service: Member, Chair - School of Medicine Full Professor APT Committee; Member - Health Sciences Advisory Committee
There are multiple reasons I am running for APT: (1) provide continuity and experience to the Committee, (2) satisfaction serving with a thoughtful and experienced group of faculty, (3) intellectual enjoyment discovering the fascinating scholarship and activities of UNC’s diverse faculty. As a faculty member, I have taught undergraduate, graduate student, and medical student classes, and developed an appreciation and admiration for all scholarly endeavors including fine arts, social sciences, natural sciences, clinical sciences, and professional disciplines. My research in neuroscience has been funded by NIH and NSF and I have served on review panels for both organizations. These experiences and many others, along with my service on promotion committees, have given me the experience and insight to be a thoughtful and fair member of APT.
