I have been elected to the Faculty Council and to the Educational Policy, Faculty Hearings, Financial Exigency and Program Change, and Appointment, Promotion and Tenure committees. I chaired the pan-university working group on faculty development that recommended the creation of the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and served as its first director. I have been appointed to several University Distinguished Teaching Award Committees and as a director of the Carolina Union. I have also served my department as chair for six years as well as its diversity liaison. I am currently Academic Director of the Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship.

Candidate Statement

Faculty Council is the shared voice of the faculty. Faculty Executive Committee (FEC) members are members of Faculty Council; they provide day-to-day advice to the Chair of the Faculty and present the faculty perspective on all important issues in deliberations with administrators.
My primary qualifications are my: (1) practical understanding of budgetary and financial issues, especially now when financial constraints limit the university’s planning and innovation; (2) recognition of how faculty responsibilities and needs differ across campus as developed by service at the CFE and on the APT Committee; and (3) experience working with administrators to achieve University goals while maintaining faculty well-being while department chair.
My goal, if elected, is to ensure that the faculty’s voice is heard and the substance of its message is incorporated in decision-making.
