Candidate Statement

When I walk on the Carolina campus, I am grateful to be a part of place that changes lives for the better. The chance to serve as Chair of this great Faculty is an honor and I believe I bring qualities to the role that will be useful as Carolina confronts new challenges up to and including the extraordinary moment we are living through. Even in the midst of COVID-19, new initiatives on our campus, such as the possibility of a new school of data science or a program on civil discourse, will not stop and they will bring both excitement and concern. Also, we must continue our collective work on reckoning, truth-telling, and reconciliation. If elected Faculty Chair, my duty will be to see that the faculty are fully informed regarding choices we face and that the faculty voice is at the center of decision-making and leadership.
