I joined UNC as an Assistant Professor in 2000 and since 2006 I have been a Professor in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research (STOR). I served as the chair of the STOR department during 2014-2019. I have been a member of Chancellor’s Science Scholars Executive Advisory Board since March 2018. I have been serving on the University Committee on Race-Neutral Strategies since Oct 2018. In 2019 I served as a Reader for applications for admission to the Chancellor’s Science Scholars Program.

Candidate Statement

I am running for this position in order to provide voice and advocacy to issues that strongly impact the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. These include, high enrollment pressures in undergraduate classes, uncompetitive graduate student stipends, inadequate University funding for postdoctoral research positions, stagnant faculty and staff salaries, and lack of diversity in our student body and faculty ranks.
My hope is to be able to engage with faculty colleagues and University leadership in proposing strategies for addressing these pressing concerns.
